Principle behind HDMI connector support for hot-plugging:
At pin 19 of the HDMI female connector, a half‑length pin is installed, known as the Hot Plug Detect pin. When an HDMI cable is disconnected, this Hot Plug Detect pin is the first to lose its connection. Upon detecting this disconnection, the HDMI circuitry notifies the input and output devices to cease operation, thereby enabling hot plugging. This principle relies on the differing lengths of the interface pins, which is somewhat analogous to USB hot plugging. Inside a USB connector, there are four gold contacts: the two longer ones provide power, ensuring that power remains connected during insertion and removal, while the remaining contacts handle data transfer, thus preventing data loss or device damage during hot plugging.
