Analysis of Two Technologies for HDMI Interface Connector

HDMI interface connector is widely used at present, especially in the current Market trend of Internet TV and home appliance ecological chain integration. 1、 Can the HDMI interface connector transmit audio and video signals simultaneously?

According to some information platforms, the HDMI interface connector is easy to use and can transmit all audio and video with just one cable. So is this statement true?

We investigated some user feedback and found that when some users first came into contact with the HDMI interface, they would think that the so-called "high-definition one line connection" can transmit audio and video signals simultaneously. However, after buying the LCD TV home, they found that the TV had no sound when connected to the computer through the HDMI interface.

So why is this?

According to the analysis of Guoguang Group, a manufacturer of HDMI connectors, the audio and video signals of most computers are independent of each other and output separately. Video signals are output from the computer's graphics card or motherboard integrated graphics card, but audio needs to be output from the sound card or motherboard integrated sound card. Therefore, even if the graphics card is equipped with an HDMI or DVI interface, the part that can be transmitted only includes video signals and no audio, and users need to output additional audio to hear the matching sound.

If consumers plan to use HDMI or DVI conversion to connect to computer signals when purchasing LCD TVs, they should consider in advance whether the product has a dedicated audio input interface reserved for the HDMI interface. If not, they should configure a speaker for the computer's sound output.

2、 Is it true not to hot plug the HDMI interface connector cable?

The principle of HDMI interface connector supporting hot swapping:

On the 19th pin of the HDMI female head, place a half cut pin called a Hot Plug Detect. When the HDMI is unplugged, this hot plug monitoring pin first disconnects. Then, when the HDMI circuit detects a disconnection, it notifies the input and output devices to stop working, playing the role of hot swapping. The principle of achieving hot swapping based on the length of interface pins is somewhat similar to USB hot swapping. There are a total of four gold fingers inside the USB interface, with the longer two being the power supply. When plugging and unplugging, power is prioritized, followed by data exchange, ensuring that hot swapping does not damage device data.
